If your perfect afternoon includes grabbing the leash and heading somewhere beautiful with your dog, Charlotte has no shortage of options.
From quiet wooded trails to skyline views and open fields that glow at sunset, there are so many places around Charlotte that are ideal for both relaxed weekend walks and updated portraits with your pup.
Here are a few of my favorite dog-friendly parks in Charlotte — the ones I personally recommend for clients and visit often.
🌿 Freedom Park
📍 Charlotte, NC
Freedom Park is one of those locations that never disappoints. The walking paths wrap around the lake, the trees are stunning in the fall, and there’s plenty of space for dogs to explore.
It’s lively but not overwhelming, which makes it great for social dogs who enjoy being out and about.
📸 Why I love it for sessions:
The light filters beautifully through the trees at sunset. In the spring and fall especially, the colors feel warm and timeless — perfect for pet & me portraits or full family sessions with dogs.
🌆 Romare Bearden Park
📍 Uptown Charlotte, NC
If you love a more modern look, this park offers skyline views that feel clean and elevated.
It’s ideal for couples or city-loving dog parents who want something a little different than a nature backdrop.
📸 What makes it special:
At sunset, the skyline glows and gives your images a polished feel while still keeping things relaxed. It’s simple, uncluttered, and bold in the best way.
🌳 Reedy Creek Nature Preserve
📍 Northeast Charlotte, NC
If you prefer something quieter and more tucked away, Reedy Creek feels like a hidden escape.
There are miles of shaded trails, beautiful greenery, and fewer crowds compared to some of the more central parks.
📸 Photography note:
This location works beautifully for clients who want a natural, earthy look. Spring and early summer here are especially beautiful.
🌊 McDowell Nature Preserve
📍 Southwest Charlotte, NC
Located along Lake Wylie, McDowell offers water views and peaceful wooded trails.
It’s a great option if you want something scenic without being in the middle of the city.
📸 Why it works:
Golden hour near the water is soft and calm. Sessions here feel relaxed and candid — more like an evening walk than a posed photoshoot.
🌅 Jetton Park (Lake Norman Favorite)
📍 Cornelius, NC
Just outside Charlotte, Jetton Park sits right on Lake Norman and has a paved waterfront trail that’s perfect for slower strolls.
It’s especially great for senior dogs or pups who do better on smooth paths.
📸 Sunset here is unreal.
The light reflecting off the water creates the softest glow, and it’s one of my most requested locations for couples and pets.
Choosing the Right Spot for Your Dog
Every dog is different. Some thrive in busier parks with lots of stimulation, while others do better in quiet, shaded areas.
When helping clients choose a location, I always consider:
• Your dog’s energy level
• How they handle distractions
• The time of year
• The overall feel you want in your photos
The right setting makes all the difference.
Want to Capture It?
If your dog is happiest outside, that’s where we’ll photograph them.
I offer mini and full sessions throughout Charlotte, Lake Norman, Concord, and surrounding areas. We’ll choose a location that feels natural for you and your pup, work around the best light of the day, and keep the experience relaxed from start to finish.
Because these everyday walks — the ones that feel ordinary right now — are often the ones you’ll miss the most later.
