In this blog, I’m sharing some of the best hiking trails near Mooresville and Lake Norman that are pet-friendly, beautiful, and perfect for a weekend adventure — or even for your next dog-friendly photo session.
🥾 1. Lake Norman State Park
📍 Troutman, NC (15 mins from Mooresville)
This is the holy grail of dog-friendly hiking near Lake Norman. With over 30 miles of trails (including the popular Lake Shore Trail), you can choose short strolls or longer hikes depending on your dog’s energy level.
🐾 Dog Tip: Keep your dog leashed, bring water, and don’t forget to check for ticks after your hike.

🌲 2. Jetton Park
📍 Cornelius, NC
Jetton Park sits right on Lake Norman and has a paved 1.3-mile loop that's perfect for a relaxing walk with your pup. Shady, scenic, and well-maintained — it’s a favorite among dog parents.
🐾 Why it’s great: Paved trail = easy on the joints for older dogs. There are also water fountains, clean restrooms, and plenty of parking.

🌿 3. Bellingham Park
📍 Mooresville, NC
This 4-acre park is tucked into Mooresville and features several short nature trails that are shaded and perfect for low-key weekend walks.
🐾 Best for: Small dogs, senior dogs, or dogs new to trail walking.

🐕 4. Fisher Farm Park
📍 Davidson, NC
Fisher Farm is just outside Mooresville and has beautiful open fields, dirt trails, and wooded areas. Dogs are welcome on-leash, and the wide-open spaces are perfect for training or playtime.
🐾 Fun fact: It’s also great for agility work or off-leash play in low-traffic areas (with good recall).
📸 Why I love it: The rustic setting is perfect for candid, natural photos of you and your pup just being yourselves.
🏞️ 5. Robbins Park
📍 Cornelius, NC
This eco-friendly park has a mix of paved trails, boardwalks, and nature paths that wind through beautiful wooded areas. Dogs are welcome on-leash and will love exploring the natural scents and sounds.
🐾 Best for: Quiet walks, family strolls with dogs, and exploring with young kids + pets.
